EDU 154 Fostering Creativity Through the Arts

Credits: (3)
This course introduces students to the development of creativity through expressive arts, music, movement, and dramatic play. Concepts related to creativity, curriculum development, and awareness of cultural diversity in the arts will be explored through developmentally appropriate practice. Prerequisite(s): EDU 180  or permission of instructor.

Learning Outcomes
  1. Describe the principles and practices of teaching the arts in an early childhood environment. 
  2. Explain the concepts of creativity, divergent thinking skills and aesthetics. 
  3. Identify the state and federal standards for the arts in planning developmentally appropriate curriculum. 
  4. Plan developmentally appropriate creative art activities for young children. 
  5. Demonstrate awareness of cultural diversity in the arts curriculum in the early childhood environment.
