MAT 263 Calculus III

The following topics are studied: vectors, vector functions, 3-dimensional analytic geometry, partial derivatives, total differentials, gradients, multiple integrals, line integrals, Green’s theorem, Stokes’s theorem. Prerequisite(s): MAT 162 .

Learning Outcomes
  1. Define and perform basic arithmetic, algebraic, and calculus operations on vectors and vector functions.
  2. Identify and write equations of lines, planes, and quadric surfaces in 3-dimensional space.
  3. Apply the above concepts and techniques in analyzing and solving problems in geometry and mechanics.
  4. Define and interpret the basic calculus concepts for functions of two or more variables.
  5. Evaluate partial derivatives, directional derivatives, total differentials, and multiple integrals.
  6. Apply the above concepts and techniques in analyzing and solving problems of extrema, geometry, and centers of mass.
  7. Evaluate line and surface integrals.
  8. Understand and apply Green’s theorem and Stoke’s theorem.
