SGT 103L Principles of Surgical Technology Lab Credits: (2)
A lab to complement SGT 103 Principles of Surgical Technology . The student will be introduced to the techniques and equipment that are an integral part of his/her training as a Surgical Technologist. Prerequisite(s): SGT major Co-requisite(s): SGT 101 , SGT 102 , and SGT 103 .
Learning Outcomes
- Explain, discuss, and demonstrate a surgical scrub and donning sterile gown and gloves on self and another team member.
- List and demonstrate how to perform draping for a surgical procedure.
- Identify the necessary instruments and demonstrate how to set up the following surgical procedures: Minor, D&C, Laparoscopic, and Major.
- Explain and demonstrate how to manipulate and add parts to an operating room table, including identifying and demonstrating how to position a patient for surgical procedures.
- Discuss and demonstrate how to perform a surgical skin prep.
- Discuss and demonstrate how to prepare specimens for pathological examinations.
- Demonstrate professional behavior in all given circumstances.
