EMS 140L Medical Emergencies I Skills Lab Credits: (1) This laboratory course is designed to build upon the student’s existing knowledge base and accompany the Medical Emergencies I course. Laboratory sessions focus on the development and refinement of essential skills required for clinical practice as a paramedic. Prerequisite(s): matriculation in EMS program and C+ or higher in EMS 110 , EMS 110L , EMS 111 , EMS 112 , EMS 120 , EMS 120L , EMS 121 , EMS 130 , EMS 130L , and EMS 131 . Co-requisite(s): EMS 140 and EMS 141 .
Learning Outcomes
- Demonstrate core BLS competencies of an emergency medical technician.
- Acquire and demonstrate the skill sets required for clinical practice as a paramedic, including intravenous cannulation, intraosseous insertion, medication administration, and advanced airway management.
- Perform a comprehensive assessment of a patient including interview, physical exam, and medical history, and assign treatment/triage priorities while developing a list of working differential diagnoses.
- Demonstrate diversity awareness, professional responsibility, and respect while interacting with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
