ASA 269 Individual Counseling Skills for Chemical Dependency Counselors Credits: (3) This course is designed to provide entry level chemical dependency counselors the basic concepts of substance abuse and addictions counseling, including: terms, models, and ethical issues; substance classifications, effects and associated dangers; assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning; theoretical approaches, including: motivational interviewing; cognitive behavioral therapy; relapse prevention; and family systems theory. Counseling individuals about the use of addiction medications and vocational related issues will also be explored. Prerequisite(s): HUM 150 and ASA 159 , or permission of instructor.
