Return to: Degrees, Certificates, and Microcredentials
Todays manufacturing environment requires highly skilled technicians with advanced skills to specify, integrate, and maintain automated processes. The Electromechanical Technology A.A.S. degree allows students to focus on the technical knowledge and the professional skills sought by employers both locally and nationally. Students will learn fundamental electrical, mechanical, and programming skills that will provide them a strong foundation needed to be an electromechanical technician. The program offers students a well-rounded education by including professional written and oral communication, computing and information literacy, and other similar skills while completing SUNY General Education requirements.
The program is heavily focused on hands-on learning where students will become proficient in using common electrical diagnostic tools, mechanical assembly tools. and precision measurement equipment to troubleshoot a wide array of electromechanical systems. Basic shop math skills are taught and reinforced throughout the program to provide students with the ability to specify and implement electromechanical systems with confidence. Students will learn to utilize common industrial equipment including pneumatic systems, programmable logic controllers, and motor controllers. Advanced classes will allow students to implement and troubleshoot sophisticated electromechanical and robotic systems.
Graduates of the Electromechanical Technology A.A.S. program are adequately trained for direct employment in a variety of high demand industries in mid-level positions. Transfer pathways to advanced degrees with some local and SUNY partners are possible with proper advising.
Mission Statement
The Electromechanical Technology A.A.S. will provide students with the knowledge and skills related to mechanical, electrical, and control systems required to gain employment in the field of manufacturing, automation, and other similar industrial applications. The program will provide a well-rounded education that will prepare students for entry to and growth within in a variety of technical fields. The college will partner with local manufacturers, service companies, and other entities that manufacture, and/or operate and repair electromechanical systems to optimize program quality and opportunity for its graduates.
Program Learning Outcomes
- Explain how electromechanical systems are manufactured and operate.
- Diagnose and repair electromechanical system components.
- Explain the physics, electrical, mechanical, and control concepts supporting electromechanical systems repair and operation.
