SGT 111 Surgical Procedures Credits: (5) This course details surgical procedures and the role the Surgical Technologist plays. Common surgical procedures are explained for each body system. The student learns how to assist the physician during each specific procedure. Registration in this course will charge a Surgical Technology fee. Prerequisite(s): Matriculation in the Surgical Technology (A.A.S.) program, C+ or better in SGT 101 , SGT 102 , and SGT 103 ; B or higher in SGT 103L ; C+ or better in BIO 171 , BIO 172 , and HIT 120 . Co-requisite(s): SGT 105 .

- Describe the regional anatomy associated with given surgical procedures.
- Identify commonly used instruments, sutures, and power equipment for the various surgical procedures.
- List and describe indications, contraindications, precautions, and actions of drugs used in surgery.
- Understand draping and safe positioning of the surgical patient, and identify potential related hazards.
- Identify surgical catheters and drains related to surgical procedures.
- Assess the total needs of a given surgical procedure.
